Environment Team Gets a New Leader
Buoyed and riding on the ripples brought about by the passing of the Syokimau zoning plan into law by the Machakos County Assembly, the Environment team held their 1st strategic plan meeting on 2nd June 2022 at the Wills Restaurant in Syokimau. The team identified the following thematic areas for their operations and calendar of events.
- The World Environment Day 2022
This is a global campaign that uses the theme #OnlyOneEarth to call for transformative changes to policies and choices to enable cleaner, greener, and sustainable living in harmony with nature. This day is coming up very soon on 5th June 2022. The team decided to run an online campaign for awareness and visibility as no time is available for any physical activities.
- Tree planting exercises
To revive the partnerships for this activity to make Syokimau even Greener. Residents are encouraged to come up in big numbers when this exercise is dated and partnerships secured. Let us make Syokimau Greener.
- Zoning guidelines
After the passing of the Zoning plan, it is the responsibility of the residents led by SRA ExCom to define zoning for Syokimau. The law allows residents to meet with the county planning department to define the zoning for Syokimau. Eg. What does high/low/medium density mean for Syokimau estate.
- Bi-monthly cleaning exercises for each road.
Teams were put in place to run each of the above activities. These teams will work with other Exom teams for proper coordination of the activities.
In order to carry out these activities plus more the team made a decision to relieve the chairman Mr Mutinda from the team leaders’ role and unanimously appointed Mwalimu Chengole Karera to lead the environment cluster for the term. Mwalimu is a well-known active member of the association from Katani road.
