Reliable Water on the Horizon: A Landmark Win for Syokimau

Change is flowing into Syokimau! On Thursday, 12th January 2026, a pivotal meeting took place between the Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA) and the Syokimau Residents Association (SRA).

The goal? To ensure that our rapidly growing community—now home to over 100,000 people—finally gets the sustainable water infrastructure it deserves.

The Breakthrough: A Dedicated Bulk Water System

For years, Syokimau has outpaced its infrastructure. Chaired by AWWDA C.E.O. Eng. Joseph Kamau, this high-level consultative meeting served as a formal commitment to fast-track a dedicated bulk water supply system specifically for our neighborhood.

Key Project Highlights

  • Total Investment: A massive Ksh 300 million project.
  • Funding Partner: Fully funded by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD).
  • The Source: Water will be tapped from the Northern Collector Tunnel (NCT), which adds a whopping 140 million liters of water daily to the Nairobi Metropolitan Region.
  • Current Status: Engineering designs are 100% complete.

What Happens Next?

We aren’t just talking about plans anymore; we are moving into the action phase. AWWDA confirmed that the project has officially entered the procurement phase.

“With designs finalized, AWWDA is initiating a competitive bidding process to secure a contractor and commence construction without delay.”

This means the search for a qualified contractor is underway, and once selected, shovels will hit the ground to bring this vision to life.

Why This Matters for Us

This isn’t just about household taps. A reliable water supply is the backbone of a thriving community. This project is set to:

  1. Boost Property Value: Reliable utilities make Syokimau an even more attractive place to live and invest.
  2. Support Local Business: Commercial and institutional developments will finally have the resources they need to scale.
  3. Ensure Long-term Security: By linking to the NCT, we are securing our water future against the pressures of urban expansion.

A Note of Thanks

The Syokimau Residents Association (SRA) continues to be a fierce advocate for our collective interests. It is through these collaborative engagements with partners like AWWDA that we see real, tangible progress for our home.
