Celebrating Our Different Cultures in Syokimau

By Ma’asumah Mohamed, Grade 3

Did you know that Syokimau Estate is like a big family with people from many different cultures? This is one of the things that makes our estate special and beautiful.

I have many friends from different cultures, and some of us even go to school together. We learn, play, and have fun with one another every day. Through our friendships, we get to learn about different traditions and ways of life.

Some families are Somali and celebrate with delicious foods, colorful clothes, and special traditions. Others are Kikuyu and enjoy traditional songs, dances, and ceremonies. The Maasai people are known for their bright red clothing, beautiful beadwork, and jumping dances. We also have Arabic families who celebrate their culture through language, food, and festivals. At the coast, the Swahili culture is famous for its rich history, tasty dishes, and beautiful coastal traditions.

Even though our cultures are different, we all live together as friends and neighbors in Syokimau. We respect one another, share our traditions, and celebrate our diversity.

Our different cultures make Syokimau a happy, colorful, and exciting place to live. I am proud to have friends from many cultures and to be part of such a wonderful community!
