Upcoming Public Participation Forum: Help Shape the Future of JKIA – Syokimau Residents Invited
Date: 22nd July 2025
Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 Noon
Venue: Syokimau Chief’s Grounds
The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has announced an important opportunity for residents of Syokimau and surrounding areas to actively participate in shaping the future of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and Wilson Airport (WAP).
As part of the development of Integrated Master Plans for these two key airports, KAA is conducting a Strategic Environmental and Social Assessment (SESA) to ensure that future projects are not only efficient but also environmentally and socially responsible. This planning process is being carried out by Dar Al Handasah Consultants and Geodev (K) Ltd, in compliance with the Environmental Management and Coordination Act, 1999.
Why This Matters for Syokimau Residents
Syokimau lies right at the doorstep of JKIA. Any developments at the airport — whether it’s expansion, infrastructure improvement, or changes in operational policy — directly impact our neighborhood. From traffic, air quality, noise levels, to property values and safety, the outcomes of this master plan could have a lasting effect on our community.
The SESA process is a public engagement initiative, and KAA is specifically reaching out to communities like Syokimau to gather views, concerns, and suggestions. Your input will help ensure that local issues are well understood and factored into the final development plan.
What to Expect at the Meeting
During the forum, residents will be briefed on:
- KAA’s vision and proposals for JKIA and Wilson Airport
- The scope of environmental and social impacts being considered
- How local communities stand to be affected or benefit
- Channels through which concerns can be raised and addressed
This is not just a formality — it’s a chance for real dialogue with decision-makers and experts working on the project.
Call to Action
We encourage every Syokimau resident — homeowners, tenants, business owners, youth leaders, and local organizations — to attend this important meeting. Your voice is critical in making sure that development is done with us, not just around us.
