A New Era of Collaboration
Syokimau Gains Key Voices in County Governance
Hello, neighbours and residents of Syokimau!
We have some tremendously exciting news to share—a significant milestone for our community that marks a new chapter in our collaboration with the County Government of Machakos.
For a long time, the Syokimau Residents Association (SRA) has worked tirelessly to be a strong, unified voice for our area, advocating for the development and services we deserve. We are thrilled to announce that this advocacy has been met with resounding action and recognition from the highest office in the county.
Her Excellency Governor Wavinya Ndeti and her administration have demonstrated an incredible commitment to inclusive governance. In a powerful move, the Governor has officially appointed four of our distinguished community members to key county bodies. This isn’t just a gesture; it’s a strategic placement that ensures the unique needs and perspectives of Syokimau are heard directly at the decision-making table.
We are proud to introduce your new representatives:
- John Thiong’o, Juliet Karung’o & Merceline Belesia – Mavoko Municipal Board
We are especially proud to see our very own SRA Patron, John Thiong’o, appointed to this vital board. Alongside the capable Juliet Karung’o and Merceline Belesia, this powerful team will be our direct link to the planning and development decisions that affect our daily lives in Mavoko. From infrastructure and zoning to local services, they will be there to ensure Syokimau’s interests are front and centre. - Mohamed Ismail Abdi – County Rural and Urban Affordable Housing Committee
With the ongoing national focus on affordable housing, Mohamed’s appointment is crucial. He will represent our community’s housing needs and ensure that development in our area is sustainable, beneficial, and accessible to all residents.
These appointments are for a term of three years and are renewable for a further term. This is a clear testament to Governor Ndeti’s will to partner with the SRA and work directly with the people of Syokimau. We are profoundly grateful to Her Excellency for this trust and for embracing a spirit of true partnership.
More Good News on the Horizon: Development Projects for Syokimau
But the good news doesn’t stop there! During these productive discussions, the Governor also previewed some of the exciting development projects earmarked for Syokimau in the upcoming 2025-26 county budget. This direct investment in our community is a direct result of this strengthened partnership.
Here’s a glimpse of what we can look forward to:
- Healthcare Boost: Our very own Level 4 Hospital is nearing completion! This facility is set to dramatically improve our access to quality healthcare services, meaning fewer long trips for medical attention. It’s a game-changer for our community’s well-being.
- Road Rehabilitation: If you’ve driven around Syokimau lately, you know this is a top priority! We need more roads. The county has committed to the rehabilitation of our roads to make them more motorable.
- Investment in Our Children: Recognizing the need for early childhood development, there are plans under consideration to establish ECD (Early Childhood Development) classes at the public land along Kiungani Road. This would provide a vital educational foundation for our youngest residents right here in our neighbourhood.
These are just a few highlights among other developments planned for the budget. It’s an incredibly promising time for Syokimau.
This is Our Collective Achievement
This breakthrough is a victory for every resident who has engaged with the SRA, attended meetings, or simply lent their support. It proves that when our community speaks with one voice, we can achieve incredible things.
Let’s rally behind our new appointees—John, Juliet, Merceline, and Mohamed—as they embark on this important work. We encourage you to stay engaged, share your ideas, and continue supporting the SRA as we work together to build a better, more developed Syokimau for all.
There is progress, in partnership, and a brighter future for our community
