Our Community’s Hopes in the County Development Plan

Here at the Syokimau Residents Association (SRA), we firmly believe that active citizen participation is the cornerstone of successful community development. That’s why we consistently engage with the Machakos County Government during its Annual Development Plan (ADP) process, ensuring our voices are heard and our priorities are clear.

This year, our engagement is filled with a renewed sense of optimism. Under the leadership of Her Excellency Governor Wavinya Ndeti, we have witnessed a demonstrated commitment to addressing the development needs of Syokimau. This goodwill has inspired us to work even more closely with her administration to transform our estate.

We are hopeful that this season marks a turning point, and we are proud to share the key priorities we presented for inclusion in this year’s ADP:

1. Completion and Expansion of the Level 4 Hospital
The ongoing construction of a Level 4 hospital is one of the most visible signs of progress in our area. This project is a testament to the Governor’s commitment to improving healthcare access for our residents. Our appeal is for the county to allocate the necessary resources to not only complete this vital facility but also to consider its expansion to serve our growing community effectively.

2. Water Reticulation Project
Access to reliable, clean water is a fundamental need. While the water reticulation project has faced delays due to funding challenges, the SRA is in active discussions with the Governor’s office to unblock these bottlenecks. We are committed to seeing this project through to completion, ensuring that every household finally has water flowing from its taps.

3. Road Infrastructure Development
We acknowledge the work already done by KURA on our roads. Building on this foundation, we have lobbied the county government to initiate complementary works. Our goal is to see a comprehensive upgrade of our road network, focusing on key arteries that need grading, tarmacking, and improved drainage to ease mobility and enhance safety.

4. Establishment of an ECD Centre
Investing in our children is investing in our future. The SRA has proposed the construction of an Early Childhood Development (ECD) centre on the public land at the end of Kiungani Road. This facility would provide a much-needed, dedicated space for our youngest learners to begin their educational journey.

5. Additional Vital Projects
We have also highlighted other critical needs, including the drilling of a dedicated borehole at the new hospital to guarantee water security and the extension of street lighting coverage across our neighbourhoods to improve security and night-time safety.

The Syokimau Residents Association does not take the demonstrated goodwill of Governor Wavinya Ndeti for granted. We see it as a powerful catalyst for progress and are eager to continue this collaborative partnership.

We join the entire community in praying for her success and in supporting an agenda that will undoubtedly uplift Syokimau and fulfill the promise of a prosperous, well-serviced estate for all.

Stay engaged, stay informed. Together, we build Syokimau.
